An updated Research in Practice briefing, by Ferguson, Kelly & Gilsenan (2023), discusses the impact of COVID-19 on child protection and its implications for the future.

During the pandemic, digital technology was increasingly used in social care practices. In casework, this resulted in the widespread use of ‘virtual visits’, where video calls were made to children and their families in place of home visits.

Open access briefing presents findings regarding the increased use of digital technologies in social service and opportunities to develop person-centered practice. As the boundaries between home and office have become increasingly nebulous, the briefing also examines how organizations can support staff well-being effectively.
